The Rutland Arms was the first pub we went to in London, it was under the Hammersmith Bridge and just a little ways down the street, that was lined with pubs on one side, and the water on the other.

The Hammersmith Bridge is so pretty, nothing like anything we have here in the states.

The pub has so many ciders and beers on tap, and you can order any drink you’d like much like at home, but of course we had to order a pitcher of Pimm’s Cup. It’s a traditional British pitcher drink that is so delicious and refreshing. Pimms is a gin based alcohol that is fermented with bitter herbs and citrus fruits to create the alcohol. I think it tastes a lot like iced team. When you make the pitcher drink you add an effervescent mixer like sprite or ginger ale and a bunch of sliced fruit, cucumber slices, and mint leaves. It is so delicious, and I guess the British version of a sangria?

I loved sitting outside drinking our Pimm’s Cup by the river, we saw so many house boats and it was very relaxed. I even saw people bringing their dogs inside to have dinner in the restaurant, it was no big deal!

Here’s a recipe for Pimm’s Cup you can try at home!

In a large pitcher mix together:

1 1/2 cup Pimm’s No. 1

Fruit and such: orange slices, lemon slices, blueberries, apple, cucumber, strawberries, mint leaves, really whatever you would like, but these are the traditional fruits you would see in the drink, it very important to add the mint though!

1 1/2 lemon lime or ginger soda

3 cups of ice (it’s important to serve this cold!)

ENJOY!
